The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) has just launched its 2022 Survey of Research and Development (R&D) Statistics for the reference year 2021 to ensure the timely collection of data for the monitoring of SDG 9.5. The questionnaire and related materials are available on the UIS website at: .

As part of the 星空传媒 Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda 2030, countries have pledged to 鈥渂uild resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation鈥�. In particular, SDG Target 9.5 calls upon nations to encourage innovation and substantially increase the numbers of researchers, as well as public and private spending on R&D. The UIS, as the custodian agency, collects data and produces two key indicators to monitor progress towards this SDG target 鈥� i) SDG 9.5.1 and ii) SDG 9.5.2 . To reduce the reporting burden on Member States, only the essential data points needed to produce the above indicators are collected in the Survey.

Country-level data and indicators from this Survey will be released by the UIS in 2023 through its (UIS.stat), and the (BDDS). As the official source for R&D data for the United Nations, you will also find UIS data cited in many global indices, reports and databases.
