Achieving ǿմý Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) relies on the ability of countries to monitor progress through robust, timely, and policy-relevant data. Within the SDG 4 monitoring framework, Member States are tasked with tracking national progress and ensuring that data systems effectively support planning and decision-making. Strong national data ecosystems—anchored in coherent governance, high-quality data collection, and cross-sectoral coordination—are essential not only for fulfilling reporting obligations but also for identifying gaps, targeting interventions, and accelerating progress toward inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
In Asia and the Pacific, countries face challenges in generating, compiling, and utilizing high-quality education statistics. As emphasized in the , reliable data form the foundation of evidence-based policymaking at both national and regional levels. Fragmented data systems, ambiguous governance structures across sectors such as early childhood care and education (ECCE), higher education, and technical and vocational education and training (TVET), along with limited integration of data from non-education ministries, have hindered the development of comprehensive and coordinated monitoring frameworks.
In this context, and as a direct follow-up to the recommendations of the , the UIS Regional Office in Asia and the Pacific and the are co-organizinga Regional Training Workshop on “Enhancing National SDG 4 Data Ecosystems for Producing and Reporting Quality Education Statistics”.
Taking place from 19 to 22 August 2025 in Bangkok, this four-day workshop—organized under the Learning and Education 2030+ (LE2030+) framework—will bring together EMIS focal points, education planners, and policymakers from 18 countries across the region to strengthen their capacity and collaboration around education data. The workshop will address key challenges in SDG 4 monitoring at national, regional, and global levels, with a focus on strengthening technical capacities in administrative data systems and fostering regional dialogue on education data governance, quality, and use.
