On 5 September 2025, the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) will launch the sixth annual Survey of Expenditure on Cultural and Natural Heritage (SDG Indicator 11.4.1).
Respondents will receive a link to the online questionnaire in LimeSurvey. The survey is available in English, French and Spanish. The response deadline is 28 November 2025.
As part of the 2030 Agenda for ǿմý Development Goals (SDGs), SDG Target 11.4 specifically calls on nations to “strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage”. The UIS, as the custodian agency for this target, produces the only SDG Indicator related to culture 11.4.1 defined as “Total expenditure per capita spent on the preservation, protection and conservation of all cultural and natural heritage, by source of funding (public, private), type of heritage (cultural, natural) and level of government (national, regional and local/municipal)”.
The indicators produced through this survey will be made available in 2026 via the and the (BDDS). These indicators will also be included in the United Nations' and cited in various global reports.
